As chosen by English music executive Simon Cowell, “The Climb” was recorded by each of the three finalists of the sixth season of the music competition The X Factor in preparation for a single release by the winner.
Joe McElderry won the show on December 13, 2009 meaning his version of the song became available to download at midnight on December 14, 2009 and on CD on 16th December, 2009. Joe confirmed on his GMTV interview that the album will not be rushed.

Joe McElderry’s performance of “The Climb” is a cover of a country pop song performed by American recording artist and actress Miley Cyrus for the 2009 film Hannah Montana: The Movie. The song was written by Jessi Alexander and Jon Mabe, who were inspired by their experiences in the music industry.
